Osteoporosis
Osteoporosis is a major public health risk for an estimated 44 million
Americans, or 55% of the people 50 years of age and older. In the United
States, 10 million individuals are estimated to already have the disease
and almost 34 million more are estimated to have low bone mass,
placing them at risk for osteoporosis.
Low bone mass is known as
Osteopenia.
Osteoporosis is often called the "silent disease" because
bone loss occurs without symptoms until bones become so weak that a
sudden strain, bump or fall causes a fracture or vertebra to collapse. At
Health Choice Screening, we can identify your risk for osteoporosis by
the use of an FDA approved bone densitometer that measures your risk
for future fracture.

The National Osteoporosis Foundation states, "that half of all Americans 50 and older will be
at risk for fractures related to osteoporosis and low bone mass if the public, health providers
and policy makers do not take immediate action". Millions of Americans are at risk, one in two
women and one in four men over the age of 50 will have an osteoporosis-related fracture in
their remaining lifetime.
